The Life of a Detroit Deejay: We Want EZee
The Life of a Detroit Deejay: We Want EZee
For Eric Wright, becoming DJ EZee was never just about learning how to play music.
It began with influence.
From the music he heard growing up to the impact of his aunt, Detroit on site radio deejays like Steve "Silk" Hurley, Jeff Mills "The Wizard". Club deejays like, Donafae, known as "Donwan the Lover" and The Grim Reaper in Southfield. He watched these guys command packed rooms, each experience helped shape the way he heard music and the kind of deejay he wanted to become.
Detroit itself became part of the education.
The clubs, the parties, the people, the personalities, the late nights, and the energy of the city all became pieces of a life built around music. Eric learned that a deejay could do more than play songs. A great deejay could control the mood of a room, bring strangers together, create memories, and turn an ordinary gathering into a night people would talk about for years.
But The Life of a Detroit Deejay: We Want EZee goes beyond the music.
It also tells the stories people in the crowd never saw.
The craziness behind the scenes.
The situations he witnessed during parties and gatherings.
The Jealousy, arguments, relationships, unexpected moments, temptations, and personal involvements that sometimes came with the lifestyle.
Some became great memories.
Others became experiences he wishes he could take back.
Through it all, music remained the constant.
From the people who first inspired him to the nights when he finally stood before large crowds himself, this is the story of how Eric Wright became DJ EZee—and what happened when the music, nightlife, and real life all collided.
It is part memoir, part Detroit nightlife story, and part reflection on the people and experiences that helped shape the man behind the name.
