Kofi Sekou: The Rise of a Detroit Superhero
Kofi Sekou: The Rise of a Detroit Superhero
A Work of Historical Fiction
Kofi Sekou was a warrior long before anyone would call him a superhero.
Captured by slave catchers in West Africa, Kofi is chained with other prisoners and forced aboard a crowded slave ship bound for a world he cannot imagine. Surrounded by suffering and facing a future of bondage, he makes a desperate choice: he throws himself into the violent Atlantic rather than surrender his freedom.
But the ocean does not take his life.
Instead, something impossible happens
.
Caught between life and death, Kofi is pulled through a mysterious passage in time. When he emerges, centuries have passed, and the world he knew is gone. Somehow, he has arrived in Detroit in the early 1980s.
Cars replace horses. Towers rise into the sky. Music pours from radios. People who look like him walk freely through the streets. Yet Kofi quickly discovers that freedom in this new America does not mean the absence of danger, injustice, or suffering.
At first, Kofi believes surviving the impossible journey was the only miracle.
He is wrong.
Unknown to him, the ancestors who carried him through time have left something within him. His strength grows beyond that of an ordinary man. His instincts sharpen. Abilities he cannot explain begin to surface, and Kofi slowly realizes that his arrival in Detroit may not have been an accident.
As he struggles to understand this strange new world, Kofi also meets a woman who begins to change him in ways power never could. She helps him navigate a city, a culture, and a century he does not understand. What begins as trust slowly becomes something deeper, forcing Kofi to confront emotions he once believed had no place in the life of a warrior.
For the first time since losing everything, Kofi finds himself with something more than a mission.
He has someone he does not want to lose.
But love does not make his journey easier. It gives his enemies something to threaten, gives Kofi something worth protecting, and raises the cost of every battle he chooses to fight.
The warrior who once fought for survival in Africa must now learn how to live in the future, how to love in a world that was never meant to be his, and how to use the extraordinary gifts of his ancestors to defend a city struggling with its own battles.
Kofi Sekou: The Rise of a Detroit Superhero is a historical-fiction adventure about ancestry, survival, time travel, love, justice, and a man whose refusal to live in chains sends him centuries into the future—where his greatest battles are only beginning.
He jumped into the ocean choosing freedom over bondage.
The ancestors gave him a future.
Detroit gave him a purpose.
